What is La Niña? La Niña is the cooling of the waters in the eastern Pacific that has an effect worldwide on weather patterns. So, for example, in the Caribbean we see cool and wet conditions when La Niña hits. Then in Peru we see cooler conditions, and drier in Brazil, believe it or not, with La Niña.

什麼是反聖嬰現象呢?反聖嬰現象就是東太平洋 海水溫度降低,而對全球氣候模式造成影響。好,比方說,加勒比海地區發生反聖嬰現象時,會出現降溫、潮濕的情況。然後秘魯這邊我們會看到降溫的情況,巴西則會變乾燥,信不信由你,也是因為反聖嬰現象。
But now, we have ITCZ, right? And then rainy in the Philippines. So, the Philippines has a two-fold situation—on the one hand La Niña, and also ITCZ—tropical moisture—and then rain in Australia. That is La Niña, and it lasts for three months.
不過現在,還有這個間熱帶輻合區對不對?而菲律賓又一直下雨。好,菲律賓現在遇到兩個情況:一方面是反聖嬰現象,另一方面則是熱帶水氣旺盛的間熱帶輻合區,然後還有澳洲的降雨。這就是反聖嬰現象的關係,會維持三個月。
What is this case? What is ITCZ? It’s tropical moisture that fluctuates. So, you see it here in January at the beginning of the loop. There you are, Felicia, you see it’s raining there. And then in July, it dries out. That happens every year. So, it’s very complicated but we need to take it one element at a time, combine them all and understand what’s going on. I hope I clarified some of those concepts.
現在是什麼情況呢?什麼是間熱帶輻合區呢?間熱帶輻合區就是會移動位置的熱帶水氣。所以在循環開始的一月,你看到它在這裡。這裡,費莉西亞,你看這裡會一直下雨。然後到了七月就變乾燥。這個循環每年都會發生。這很複雜,不過我們必須一次看一個因素,然後再把它們全部結合起來看,才能了解是怎麼回事。希望我把一些概念解釋清楚了。
