Preface
Yit-Tsong Chen (Professor and Chair)
To integrate into global community, National Taiwan University has striven to adopt international practice in teaching material. Since 2006, the Department of Chemistry has been continuously working on the English version of General Chemistry Laboratory Manual. These efforts included Mr. Hardy Yap to initiate the first English version and Dr. Ai-Jen Chen to review the very first laboratory teaching materials. With their continuing efforts and collective revisions by Prof. Huang-Tsung Chang, Prof. Soofin Cheng, Prof. Wann-Yin Lin, Prof. Ying-Chih Lin, Prof. Ru-Shi Liu, Prof. Yeun-Min Tsai, and Lecturer Jui-Lin She, the first edition of General Chemistry Laboratory Manual was published in 2009. More recently, we made further revisions and rearrangements, and have introduced a few more photos to pedagogically guide the experimental procedures. In the same time, we also extended the scope of this Manual by involving three new experiments of catalyst and catalytic effect, conducting polymer-polyaniline, and organic molecular modeling. Taking this opportunity, I want to thank Prof. Wann-Yin Lin for reviewing the drafts of these new experiments, Miss Jui-Lin She (the Chief Editor) for organizing and conducting the revision project, and Miss Hsin-Yun Chang, Miss Mei-Ling Wu, and Miss Su-Chung Chen (the Teaching Assistant group) for editing the Manual. Finally, I would also like to thank all other persons who spent efforts on this project and have made this new edition of General Chemistry Laboratory Manual available.
